Our Designer

Valentine lives in an old farm house,in Hebbville, near Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co. Nova Scotia with her design staff of three dogs and two cats and her husband, the webmaster. Val taught school for many years across Canada, all the while following her love for painting and sewing. She has had her work in a number of Juried Shows in BC, NB, SK, AB and NS as well as a number of one person shows. Val took workshops from Alice Reid, Joe Fitzpatrick, Tony Law, Ruth Wainwright, Graham Pilsworth as well as NSCAD evening courses.
After retiring from teaching she started to sew and smock in earnest, building on the training she had received from Ellen Henderson the children's fine dress designer in Toronto- designing and creating fine young girls` clothing which she sold in Moncton NB. At this time she started creating Fiber Art Coats portraying the wearer`s life history, these pieces were embroidered and appliquéd. In the NWT she designed, decorated and made functional outerware.
While living in Minnesota in Gibbon without a work permit Val dove straight into quilting, taking full advantage of the Mid West quilting expertise in the area.
On returning to Canada she lived in Halifax for a year then moved to Petite Riviere where she met Doris Eaton who introduced her to the ladies of the Rug Hooking Guild -- she took up this hobby and turned it into her own art form.
She has been showing her fibre art pieces in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Lately Val has developed a business in designing and building one-of-a-kind handbags.
